What is Equine-Assisted Therapy?

Often, through the overwhelming worries and challenges of their lives, troubled teenagers and vulnerable adults can exhibit difficult or harmful behaviour.

Having the opportunity to spend time with horses, outside in a natural environment, can assist them to find a different way to cope.

Unlike traditional counselling, which is very focussed on the past, and conventional coaching, which is very future goal-based, HEART Equine-Assisted Therapeutic Coaching is the bridge between both.

By helping you discover the root cause of your challenges, the horses help you unhook from a painful past, create positive plans for the future and give you inspiring tools to cope with the present. You come away feeling empowered, enthusiastic and able to enjoy life again.

Why does working with horses work?

You know how you can walk into a room and feel something is not quite right? Or perhaps your friend says they are okay but you sense they are not? Well, horses are very similar.

As prey animals, they have had to learn to live tuned into everything and everyone around them. Therefore, they can read and feel “energy” really easily, especially that of us humans!

In the same way people can reflect certain aspects of you, so too the horses can act as a mirror or metaphor to your challenges. The difference in working with horses is that they help you find the real truth of your situation.

What is so special about working with horses?

Horses living in a herd naturally seek harmony, safety and support from one another. As prey animals they are instinctively able to tune into the energies around them and respond accordingly.

They also have a strict code of communication to one another that is consistent, clear and concise.

“Spending time with my favourite pony allows me to escape the troubles at home and means that I have someone there for me. She listens to me and loves me as I am.”
